It's been an interesting week for me. Let me catch all of you up. Monday and Tuesday I was in Grand Rapids for a meeting. Wednesday while watching American Idol I started to feel a little funny- achy, chills, that sort of thing. My stomach hurt all night long and I awoke Thursday morning rushing to the bathroom (and not to throw up). Which I continued to do every oh about half hour or so ALL DAY. Fantastic.
Fast forward to 4 o'clock and I haven't been able to even get out of bed all day besides to go to the bathroom. Thank God my mom came by around noon to bring me Jello and soup and water. I was able to get the Jello and water down. I just felt worse and worse and started to get weaker and weaker. If I stood up everything went black and I felt all hot and tingly. About 8 pm I started throwing up and had to crawl to the bathroom to do so. It was then I crawled out into the hall to call my husband,
"Adam" I call weakly down the stairs.
Nothing.
"Adam...?" Ugh. I am going to die in the hallway and he is going to find me here. Finally he comes in from outside and I am able to get him upstairs. He comes upstairs and sees me sprawled out in the hallway between our bedroom and the bathroom and says,
"Are you trying to make it to the bathroom?" Deadpan. Like he sees me sprawled out in the hallway everyday.
Jane: "No, I am throwing up now and I can't stand up or move because I feel like I am gonna pass out"
Adam: "Oh"
Jane: "I think I need to go to the ER"
Adam...stands there... "Uhhhhh ....Ok"
Jane: "Is your brother home?"
Adam: "Yeah"
Jane (still laying face down on the hallway rug) : "Can you call him and ask him to come over here to sit with Grace?"
Adam: "Uh, yeah"
Adam just doesn't get too worked up about a whole lot (which in all honesty is something I admire about him) but JEEZ it's not like I am a drama queen and ask to go to the ER all the time. Dear God can I get some sort of action here without me, sick as a dog, TELLING YOU WHAT TO DO!! I guess its good he is that unflappable but most people would have a little more sense of urgency if they saw their wife incapacitated in their hallway. I love my husband with all my heart but literally the only time I have gotten any sympathy from him was when I was in labor for 14 hours, with no drugs, and birthed a 7.5 lb baby!!!
So, anyway, off to the ER we went. I had to be wheeled in in a wheelchair and got blood work and an IV bag of fluids started right away for the obvious dehydration. The labs came back with low potassium and a slightly elevated white blood cell count which could be an indication of a bacterial infection but there is no real definitive test. The nurse took my blood pressure at one point and it was 78/37! No wonder I was passing out!! They gave Zophran for the nausea, a bag of potassium, and some more fluids and I felt a lot better. My BP was up to 89 over something by the time we left at 1 am which is still pretty low but better than practically dead when I first came in.
So that was my weekend but I am doing much better now. By Saturday I felt almost normal. That is why things have been a little slow on the Dawson blog and it took me a week to get Easter pics up. I have mostly been tired and lacking any motivation to do anything besides sit on the couch or sleep. I will try to catch up here in the next week :)
OMG I'm cracking up at your narration of you and Adam's conversation. I can totally see him like 'Uh... whatcha doin?" HAHAH! You're too funny. Glad you're feeling better!!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha!! That is hilarious....not that you were sick of course, but your husbands non-chalant manner. That IS SO DON too!! I love it, but hate it at times. Thank God your alive Jane!;) Maybe next time Adam will get on the ball a little quicker when he sees his wife face down in the hallway passed out....LOL!! I'm still laughing!
ReplyDeleteI think it has to do with men. Tony would also be so mellow-dramatic with me too. But if we acted like that when they are sick, God forbid! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better and glad you went into the ER to get some fluids and meds for the BP. Thats pretty low!!!
I think Adam sounds a lot like Jade.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better. It sounds like you had one heck of a sickness. Yuck!
OMG...too funny. My husband, Don, would have reacted the same exact way as well.
ReplyDeleteLia once went unresponsive after eating a nut (highly allergic we now know) and before he called 911, he said, "Just a minute, let me finishing taking the trash out." HELLOOOOOO?!?!
Sounds like a terrible bug you got. So glad you're recovering finally.
Glad you are feeling better! I was laughing so hard at your post. Hilarious recap. Love your new banner!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the sympathy only on the days you birth haha. So glad you are feeling better. Sophia had similar bug yesterday and today- now Luke puked twice since I picked him up from school. Fun Times. He did make it in the toilet the second time- a lovely first!
ReplyDeleteWith what Adam saw you endure all of those years in gymnastics, I'm not surprised he thinks your made of steel! So glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh, btw the second child natural was a WHOLE lot faster than the first. I went to class the second time b/c I was so freaked out from long back labor with luke... and she came in TWO hours. Just an encouragement for next time heehee.
